Vacuum lifting technology

Mankind has been aware of the power of air pressure since Otto von Guericke’s legendary demonstration in 1661 when 16 horses were unable to separate two hemispheres which had been pumped free of oxygen.

But it wasn’t until the 1950s that this power also started to be used with vacuum lifting equipment for transporting and installing glass panels at construction sites.

And it wasn’t until 1992 that the triumph of vacuum-based lifting equipment began with the first OKTOPUS® vacuum lifter from Wirth, used to install large-format wall, roof and ceiling panels, as well as heavy door and gate panels.

Another of Wirth’s application areas are vacuum lifters for industrial applications in the manufacturing industry.
